"We want Burk!": Parents, students protest Snow Hill Elementary principal's reassignment
Some parents and students at Snow Hill Elementary protested their principal's reassignment Tuesday.
PTA president Rachel Barnes shared pictures and videos of children and parents holding signs in support of Principal Lea Ann Burk.
The Hamilton County Department of Education (HCDE) announced Monday that Burk would be reassigned to Alpine Crest Elementary.
HCDE spokesman Tim Hensley released a statement Tuesday:
"It is commendable that parents and children love their principal and show such support. This support is a sign of the excellent work Ms. Burk has done at Snow Hill, and the parents and children of Alpine Crest will quickly become attached to her as well. The district is working with parents to find the best possible principal for Snow Hill. A parent survey has been provided to the parents at the school to find the type person they would like to see become the next school leader. Over 90 parents have taken the survey in one day. Administrators will use the information parents provide to make a principal selection for Snow Hill."
There is no replacement yet for Principal Burk. The HCDE says they will use the results from the survey they sent parents to make a principal decision for Snow Hill Elementary.
Depend on us to keep you posted.
