Sequatchie County five years after the storm

NewsChannel 9 rode around with Dalton PD's Lt. Coy Swanger & Sequatchie Sheriff Ronnie Hitchcock.

Five years ago, an EF4 tornado tore through Sequatchie County.

Looking at the area today, it's hard to believe a single tornado did that much damage.

Wednesday, NewsChannel 9 took a ride with Lieutenant Coy Swaner with the Dunlap Police Department & Sequatchie Sheriff Ronnie Hitchcock.

We drove the path of the tornado and compared the area from five years ago, to today.

Both Swanger & Sheriff Hitchcock went door-to-door in the area, checking in on residents once the road was cleared.

Our tour took us to East Ridge Road in Dunlap, a road officials say was one of the hardest hit in the city.

"This would be the area that it came through and it took some of them down. The roof ripped off this one, you know we had trees acros the highway. We couldn't even get up here to this so it was a slow process trying to get the road cleared so we could get up here," said Lt. Coy Swaner.

One person died in Sequatchie from a weather related death.

Ronnie "Zach" Davis of Cartwright died in a drowning incident.
