Kitten rescued from heavy bridge traffic over Chickamauga Dam Tuesday morning
The McKamey Animal Center has a new tenant who endured a very exciting morning on Tuesday.
An officer with the center rescued it from traffic on the Highway 153 bridge over the Chickamauga Dam.
A viewer wrote to NewsChannel 9 on Facebook Tuesday morning after spotting the kitten.
NewsChannel 9 contacted McKamey, who sent an officer to investigate.
The officer managed to spot the kitten, still alive, and still darting through heavy, rush hour traffic.
A Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) worker briefly stopped traffic so the officer could recover the kitten.
McKamey Executive Director Jamie McAloon tells NewsChannel 9 they're not sure whether someone dumped the kitten on the bridge over the dam, or if the kitten was just feral, and let curiosity get the best of it.
As of noon on Tuesday the kitten is still skittish and afraid, so officers haven't yet been able to determine whether it's a boy or a girl.
The kitten will need to undergo tests before McKamey can determine whether it will be put up for adoption.
Depend on us to keep you posted.
