Virtual Reality in the classroom

Many companies are working to find new ways to use virtual Reality and augmented Reality.

Today we got a look at how VR is being used in schools.

zSpace gave demonstrations of their technology at Boyd-Buchanan School in Chattanooga.

The company calls what they offer a mixed reality learning experience with virtual reality and augmented reality.

Boyd-Buchanan School is not using this technology in their classrooms at this time, but it is being used in hundreds of school systems across the country and around the world.

Dozens of schools in the state of Tennessee are using this specific technology including Cleveland City Schools.

"I think I'd like to be a doctor sometime, so it was neat to break down the human body system and look deeper into it that you would in a text book," Boyd-Buchanan 7th grader, Kate Rogers said. "It gives you a different perspective."

Joe Parlier with zSpace says they're seeing more industries using virtual reality.

"We've got everyone from departments of transportation to electrical companies," Mr. Parlier said. "So when they are in the real environment working they are safer, more accurate with their work and more successful."

One thing that makes this program different from it's competitors zSpace uses glasses instead of goggles that way students are also able to interact with the people around them.
