Reflection Riding's president talks about what makes the nature center so special

Mark McKnight is the President and CEO of Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature Center.

In 2016, we told you about Chattanooga based company Roots Rated and its co-founders Fynn Glover and Mark McKnight.

Recently Mark moved on from the company and this week we caught up with Mark in his new role as President of Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature Center.

"I get to spend my time with fantastic staff, outside quite a bit," McKnight said. "We have about sixteen-thousand kids that come through doing field trips. They get to learn about this environment and what we're doing out here. Seeing their eyes light up when they see one of our owls or one of the red wolves that were breeding in captivity that's a really special thing."

Mark McKnight's career has taken him on several twists and turns.

"My career goes all of the way back to summer camp where it was all about getting kids outside, and I got to live outside every summer in college," McKnight said. "It did wonders for me to be recharged in nature where we were designed to be."

He spent several years at Rock Creek and he spent the last few years working long hours trying to get tech start-up Roots Rated up and running.

All of these jobs had a lot to do with the outdoors and now he spends a lot more time in the outdoors.

"I love this. I've always loved this place," McKnight said. "The trails you can run up on Lookout and all of the trails that connect up to the National Park are just beautiful. The creek down here Lookout Creek is my favorite place to paddle."
