Rolled Ice Cream hits Chattanooga
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. —
We may not be dealing with 90 degree heat anymore but one new, local business in hoping you will come in for the cool.
It's hard to improve on a favorite synonymous with summer since you were a kid. But this it not your typical scoop. " It came from Thailand, it's most popular down there," says owner Hemi Patel.
Eight degrees Fahrenheit is a new business in East Brainerd, franchised from Atlanta. "When we seen them doing them, I said this is something that Chattanooga doesn't have, and this is something that Chattanooga does need," says Patel.
The choices are almost endless, bases that are made daily and then added to smashed ingredients.
The secret? "The surface goes up to 8 Fahrenheit or below 8 Fahrenheit," Patel says. So when they pour the liquid it doesn't take long to solidify, enough to roll up, and add to a cup.
After a few extra toppings, the cup is ready to go. And while he may be new to the ice cream business, Patel says he's seen plenty of happy customers. "People are liking them, enjoying them, kids especially enjoy seeing us making ice cream."
