Cooler temperatures returning for late week and the weekend
A warm start to February should give way to cooler temperatures for late week and through the weekend. Some light rain or drizzle at times through this time, but amounts look very light until next week.

JANUARY 2017 STATS
This should come as no surprise that January was warmer than average in Chattanooga. The average temperature was 49.2 degrees which was 8.6 degrees above average. The warmest high temperature was 74 degrees on the 14th and the coldest morning was 14 degrees on the 8th. This was not the all time warmest though. January 1950 is still the record holder with an average temperature of 53. 7 degrees.
As for rainfall, Chattanooga received 4.99" which was 0.08" above average. This marked the 3rd straight month of above average rainfall. The Winter seasonal total since December 1st is 10.04" which is 0.23" above average.
February begins with an average high and low of 52/32. By the end of the month, the averages are 59/37. Average rainfall for February is 4.67"
COOLER GROUNDHOG DAY
Chattanooga Chuck's big day will be a bit cooler during the afternoon regardless of the shadow. Some light rain or drizzle early, then drier and cooler through the afternoon. Temperatures should be in the 40s during the morning, then mid 50s for the afternoon. Clouds return for Thursday Night along with a little light rain or drizzle and lows in the upper 30s.
As a cold front slips south of us Friday, some even colder air moves in. There could be some light rain or drizzle at times during the morning (maybe even a little sleet along the Plateau). The rest of Friday looks cloudy to at times partly cloudy, but high temperatures should remain in the upper 40s.
It looks chilly as well for the Friday Evening Friendly at Finley Stadium. Expect temperatures around 40 as the US Men's National Team takes the field against Jamaica. Temperatures should drop into the 30s during the game.
DRY & SEASONAL SATURDAY
A mix of clouds and sun Saturday and temperatures about normal for the first weekend of February. Expect an afternoon high in the upper 40s to near 50 after a morning low near 30. Clouds should stream back in again for Saturday Night with overnight lows in the 30s.
MORE CLOUDS SUNDAY
Sunday looks cloudy and seasonal again with lower 50s by the afternoon. There is a chance for a little light rain at times, but mainly scattered. Most areas locally should stay just cloudy.
BETTER RAIN CHANCES NEXT WEEK
A more widespread chance for rain could move in beginning Monday Night and continuing through Wednesday. Longer range forecast models show the possibility of over an inch of rain through that time. A southerly flow also means that temperatures should be above average once again with highs in the upper 50s Monday, then lower 60s Tuesday and Wednesday. Colder air could settle back in for late next week and it looks even colder for next weekend.
