Be weather aware this Friday

1.jpg

Here we go again.

After this morning's rain, the sky is quickly clearing and once again, becoming unstable. Meanwhile, as of 10:45am, another complex of storms is moving just to the west and southwest of our area.

Due to this morning's storms and afternoon heating, "cool" pockets of air are left. As the air at the surface warms quickly, storms may develop once again this afternoon. At the moment, the better chance might be mid to late afternoon, and in North GA. However, as we saw yesterday, storms could fire at any time.

The Storm Prediction Center has most of N GA in a Marginal risk for our area, but just south, from Ft. Payne, to Calhoun, a slight risk, with an enhanced risk (3 on a scale of 5) closer to ATL.

THREATS:

  • Just like yesterday, we have similar threats today.
  • Strong winds, enough to knock down trees and cause power outages.
  • Heavy rain, leading to excessive runoff and potential dangerous flash flooding.
  • numerous lighting.
  • small hail

TIMING:

Best timing will be mid to late afternoon, and possibly into the evening HOWEVER, as few storms could fire early afternoon...again a wait and see unfortunately.

MORE RAIN?

  • 1-3" are possible with any of the storms.

A few more storms possible on Saturday afternoon, and showers early on Sunday, then MUCH BETTER weather on the way....
