A sunny weekend, then some April showers Monday

Saturday_Afternoon_Temps.png

A sunny weekend to kickoff the month of April. But, those April Showers could move in for early next week.

(IMAGE GALLERY ABOVE: #1. SATURDAY AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES.......#2. SUNDAY AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES.........#3. BREEZY WITH SHOWERS AND STORMS MONDAY)

A SUNNY START TO APRIL

A cool start to the day Saturday, but overall a terrific start to the weekend. Partly to mostly sunny through the afternoon with temperatures ranging from the 60s on the local mountain tops, then low 70s valley. Cool again through Sunday Morning with mid to upper 40s under a clear sky. Sunny to partly sunny Sunday and just a little warmer with afternoon highs in the mid/upper 70s. More cloud cover is possible late day and into Sunday Night.

APRIL SHOWERS AND EVEN SOME STORMS MONDAY

March was another month with below average rainfall, so we are hopeful that the April showers can reverse this trend. Monday looks cloudy and becoming quite breezy. Rain could move in through the morning, then become more widespread through the afternoon and evening. Some thunderstorms could occur as well through late day and evening. Early forecast model projections should the possibility of an average of 0.75" of rain.

Showers should eventually taper off through Tuesday Morning. Dry for a brief period for Tuesday and Wednesday with afternoon highs remaining in the 70s.

DOGWOOD WINTER LATE NEXT WEEK?

It's possible! The average date for the last Freeze in Chattanooga is April 1st. But, the average date for the last Frost is April 14th. I bring this up because a chill could be on the way for late next week and into the following weekend. Showers could return for Thursday through Friday. A gradual cool down as well as a strengthening area of low pressure over the Great Lakes pulls down some unseasonably cold air to the south. This could drop out high temperatures to the 50s for Friday. Morning temperatures next week could be in the 30s, cold enough for frost. This could even mean some spots in the outlying areas nearing the freezing mark.

We'll need to keep an eye on this especially with all of those Spring plants in full bloom. That's why these April chills are often called "Dogwood Winter"!

As always, you can depend on the StormTrack 9 Team for updates!
