Katherine Marchand joined the NewsChannel 9 team in May of 2015.
She comes to us from Atlanta, GA. Katherine was the valedictorian of her high school class and she graduated with a 4.0 GPA from Georgia Tech with a degree in Industrial Engineering. She recognizes that it's not every day you hear of an engineer-turned-reporter!
Katherine learned the "ins and outs" of local news during two stints as an intern at WSB-TV in Atlanta. She also interned at CNN's Washington Bureau for the show "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer."
Katherine is passionate about politics and government, and you'll often see her covering city council and county commission meetings. She also enjoyed covering the campaign stops of several presidential candidates who passed through Chattanooga for the 2016 presidential election. While in college, she interned at the White House in the Communications Department where she monitored the news and assisted with interviews of the President and other administration officials. She was at the White House during the rollout of the Affordable Care Act and the government shutdown and describes it as a very interesting time to be in Washington!
In her spare time, Katherine loves teaching step aerobics, spending time with family and friends, competing in team trivia events, and finding great hiking trails around the Scenic City! She has served as a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Chattanooga since 2015, and she tutors high school students in math.
