Erin Thomas is an AP Award-Winning Broadcaster who joined the NewsChannel9 team in June 2017. Erin is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University. She returns to the state of Tennessee after working for a year as the Chief Meteorologist at WTGS in historic Savannah, GA.
One of the highlights of her career so far was tracking major Hurricane Matthew by herself in October 2016 as the storm brushed by the Gerogia coastline.
In addition, Erin also experienced Hurricane Iniki, the most powerful hurricane (Category 4) to strike Hawaii in recorded histoy, when it hit the islands in September 1992.
From Pacific to Atlantic, Erin has lived in 9 states, but she's proud to call northern Missouri "home." (Go Tigers!)
When she's not busy tracking storms, Erin loves exploring local restaurants (especially tacos!), and playing with her dog, Piper.
While her background is in meteorology, she says shes excited to take on the new role in traffic reporting, but you can catch her forecasts on NewsChannel9 Midday. If you have any weather photos you'd like to share with her, or just want to say "Hi," you can send her an email at EThomas@sbgtv.com.
