UPDATE: Sports Illustrated reports Doeren will stay at NC State.

ORIGINAL STORY: A report on ESPN says that Dave Doeren, currently the head coach of NC State, is now being considered for the top coaching job for the Tennessee football Vols.

Sources tell the network Doren and UT Athletics are scheduled to have "discussions" about the job.

The Vols reached out to Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy and Purdue's Jeff Brohm this week, but both turned them down.

Doeren is 56-and-34 in stints at Northern Illinois and North Carolina State and led the Wolfpack to an 8-4 finish this year.

According to Sports Illustrated, Doeren is interested in the Vols job.

But will Vol Nation be receptive? They certainly were not with the man the Vols originally announced for the coaching job, Greg Schiano.

Reaction to the Doeren option on Twitter was decidedly mixed on Thursday.

This is a developing story. Depend on us for updates as we get them.
