Chattanooga considered one of best IronMan race destinations

With several races already in the bag, and several more planned in the future, the Scenic City is quickly becoming Iron Man City.

Now, the racers are weighing in on competing in Chattanooga.

IronMan race officials spoke to competitors to get their opinions as part of its 2016 Athletes Choice awards.

Out of dozens of race locations worldwide, Chattanooga was consistently considered one of the best destinations to compete.

Some of the highlights of the Athlete's Choice Awards: 4th overall for best race venue, 6th for overall satisfaction, and 7th for best host city experience.

For the 70.3 race: Chattanooga was voted FIRST for best race venue and best host city experience. As a bonus, it was also top ranked for restaurants.

"My first IRONMAN race experience was here in 2015. I enjoyed it so much that I brought my wife to Chattanooga for her first one as well. We love the town, the people the venue, the course. You do a great job at this race and make it memorable," according to one racer who voted Chattanooga best race venue.

"[The results] communicate our community’s ability to produce extremely positive experiences when hosting major sporting events. This is another example we will use when targeting our next major sports opportunity!" says Tim Morgan, President of the Chattanooga Sports Committee. "Our local organizing committee, volunteers, spectators and residents have defined the memorable experience for the IRONMAN athletes when they compete in Chattanooga and North Georgia. These efforts combined with the beautiful topography of our region has set the stage for this international impact!"

"The volunteers are all great and we usually have good crowds along the run course. It seems like Chattanooga has really embraced the race," says Chattanooga IronMan Ryan Davis.

The next Chattanooga IronMan race will be the 70.3 on May 21st.

The next full race will be September 24th.
