Middle Tennessee man bags possible state record wild turkey

There might be a new Tennessee state record for wild turkey.

Cord Maddox, 23, of Huntington bagged a wild turkey in Henry County, Tennessee Wildlife Officials announced. The pending score is 89.562. The previous state record turkey bagged in East Tennessee has a mark of 89.50.Cord told TWRA officials it was the spurs that caught his and a friend's attention.

"Our jaws dropped," said Cord. "We had never seen spurs like that."

Here are the measurements that are pending certification from the NWTF:

  • Weight: 25.37
  • Beard length: 12 7/16 inches
  • Right spur: 2 1/6
  • Left spur: 1 7/8
  • Total score: 89.5625

Tennessee hunters are allowed to harvest up to four bearded bird, no more than one per day, during the spring season.
