It wasn’t the start Coach Mark Guhne and his charges were looking for turning in 15-over par 295. Gosselin had the low 18 with a level par 70. Phillip Hickam (74), Lake Johnson (75) and Stuart Thomas (76) rounded out the team score.
Clemson had the low team round with an 11-under 269.
It was a different team on the course for round two. Stuart Thomas fired six birdies tying the low individual round of the year with a 4-under 66. Johnson (68) and Gosselin (69) also broke par with Brooks Thomas adding 72. The tally was the lowest of the season for the Mocs and the best in seven entries in the event.
“It was a great effort by our guys. The start was tough, but man did they fight back in the afternoon. That’s the mark of a good team. We’re getting low scores from multiple people.” – Coach Mark Guhne.
It’s the lowest team score since shooting 273 (-15) in the second round of the 2013 AutoTrader.com Collegiate. That was also a 36-hole day where the squad improved 20 strokes from the first to second rounds.
