Vols Take The Stage At SEC Media Days
It's the frenzied SEC Media Days and today Tennessee rocked the mic.
Coach Butch Jones talked about the youth of his team, bringing back consistency in the coaching staff, and "the power of one."
Jones said, "Because being so young, we have to focus on the moment, we have to win one moment at a time, one play at a time, one practice at a time, one day at a time, have one unity of purpose, one common commitment, and one mindset. It's all about our players understanding they have to earn the right to win. There's a difference between earning the right to win and hoping to win."
Linebacker Curt Magitt also weighed in on where the program will be after he's left Knoxville. Magitt noted, "I know that the standard won't go away. I know what the expectations that coach Jones has for us, the university, he's not going to sleep until he reaches it. And I'm excited for the future of the program."
One benefit coach Jones sees heading into his second year is the continuity of his coaching staff. He believes it will rub off on his players. "You know some of these individuals, this was their third or fourth defensive coordinator. You know, so to be able to have this same consistent and constant messaging, day in and day out, our players understand the standard and expectations that has been set forth to play at the University of Tennessee. To have that consistency is critical. I think you win with consistency. For us, our coaching staff has been together for a number of years, so we kind of feed off of each other, which is very, very important," Jones said.
The University of Georgia and The University of Alabama coaches and players stand before the podium on Thursday. NewsChannel 9 will have coverage from both teams.
