The 9th ranked Tennessee Lady Vols hosted 2nd ranked Notre Dame Monday night..... a special night at the Summitt in Knoxville, where they hung an 11th banner of honor, this one adding head coach emeritus Pat Summitt to the elite club.
Summitt coached the Lady Vols to 8 national championships between 1974 and last year when she retired to devote her time to her battle with Alzheimer's.
Holly Warlick, now the head coach, who's in that banner of honor club as a Lady Vols player, watched her team jump out to a quick lead... but just as quickly watched that lead disappear as Skylar Diggins and the Irish went on an 8-0 run to move in front. They led by 6 when the Lady Vols rallied to tie it at 25, but by halftime the Irish led by 4.
They ran that lead to 19 six minutes into the second half.
A Lady Vols surge chopped that deficit to 5 with 4-and-a-half minutes to go, but Diggins and company pulled away to win by 10. Diggins with a career-high 33 points as Notre Dame gets their first win ever in Knoxville... it's their 14th straight win this season... it snaps the Lady Vols 9-game winning streak.
77-67 2nd ranked Notre Dame beats the 9th ranked Lady Vols at The Summitt.
