McRae Leads Vols Past LSU
By Darrell Patterson
The Tennessee Vols, who destroyed the Kentucky Wildcats last Saturday in Knoxville, welcomed the LSU Tigers to the Thompson-Boling arena Tuesday night...the Vols hoping to get their fourth straight win, which would tie their longest winning steak of the season, and be their longest SEC winning streak of the year.
LSU had an early 9-6 lead in this one when the Vols went on an 8-0 run which gave them the lead they'd never relinquish.
Before the first half was over, the Vols had run that lead to 12 points, thanks to the 1-2 punch of Jordan McRae and Trae Golden.
LSU made a couple of runs in the second half, trimming the deficit to 6 on a couple of occasions, but each time the Vols surged again as McRae played like a man possessed.
McRae was 6 of 6 from beyond the 3-point line, scoring a career-high 34 points... the first time this season the Vols have had a player score that many in a game.
Golden scored 20, and Jarnell Stokes had another double-double, 13 points 11 rebounds, as the Vols get their fourth straight win, beating LSU 82-72.
