Lady Vols Lose in Softball World Series Championship
By Darrell Patterson
Oklahoma beat the Tennessee Lady Vols 5-3 in 12 innings Monday night in the first game of the best-of-three softball World Series championship series, which meant the Lady Vols had to win Tuesday night's game in Oklahoma City to force a third and deciding game on Wednesday.
Ivy Renfroe was in the pitcher's circle for the Lady Vols... her sister, Ellen pitched Monday night's marathon.
Keilani Ricketts, the Sooners' Monday night winning pitcher, was the Tuesday night designated player and she took Ivy deep in the third inning... an early 3-0 hole for the Lady Vols, and an early exit for Ivy Renfroe, who was replaced by sister, Ellen.
The Lady Vols couldn't get anything going off of Michelle Gascoigne who gave up only three hits and struck out ten in the first six innings.
Ricketts drove in another run with a ground-out in the top of the 7th, then Gascoigne finished the game with a flair... two more strikesout in the bottom of the 7th... 12 in the game.
Oklahoma wins the softball World Series, shutting out the Lady Vols 4-0, sweeping the series 2-0.
