The Southern Conference regular-season champion UTC Lady Mocs picked up steam in the second half and rolled past Georgia Southern Saturday in the tournament quarterfinals in Asheville.
A 17-3 first half run jump-started the Lady Mocs, who opened up a 10 point lead, doing so despite getting only two points from Ashlen Dewart and none from Kayla Christopher.
Christopher finally nailed a three-pointer to make it 25-22 with five minutes left in the first half. A 9-0 Lady Mocs run stretched the lead to 11 points.
The Lady Mocs, who led by 10 at the half, outscored Georgia Southern 18-4 in the first eight minutes of the second half to open up a 24 point lead, and pretty much put this one on ice.
The Lady Mocs made 11 three-pointers in the game... the tournament record is 13. Alex Black made three of those three's, finishing with 13 points. Christopher made two threes, scoring 12, Faith Dupree also scored 12 off the bench as the Lady Mocs get their 17th straight win.
The 78-53 win runs the Lady Mocs record to 27-3, 20-1 in SoCon games. They'll play the winner of today's Appalachian State/College of Charleston in the Sunday noon semifinal game.
