The Howard Hustlin' Tigers will be headed to next week's boys high school state tournament in Murfreesboro for the sixth time in the last seven years, but they'll be the only Chattanooga-area team in that tournament.
The Tigers fought off Dekalb County 61-58 in Monday night's class 2-A sectional round. McMinn Central lost their AA game at Livingston Academy 85-74.
In class A, Clarkrange outscored Boyd-Buchanan 13-1 in the 4th quarter at Chattanooga State for a 53-49 win. Grace Academy lost 59-39 at Watertown.
In class AAA, Bradley Central was eliminated by Siegel, 59-38 and Ooltewah lost 84-58 at Blackman.
The Bradley Central girls will be the only area team playing in this week's state tournament. The Bearettes will take on Science Hill Wednesday at 2:00 eastern time at MTSU, but will be playing without junior forward Rebecca Reuter, who was whistled for two technical fouls and was ejected from the Bearettes Saturday sub-state win over Blackman. Rueter, the daughter of the Bearettes head coach, is suspended for two games, which means she could be back on the court if the Bearettes reach Saturday's state championship game.
In Georgia, the Gordon Lee Lady Trojans will take on Randolph-Clay Thursday afternoon in the class A state championship game in Macon.Howard is State Tournament-Bound
