Chance Of A Lifetime For Taylor Hall
Senior Lady Moc Taylor Hall and soon-to-be graduate is getting a chance of a lifetime. The Seattle Storm of the WNBA has invited her to try out for the team.
Hall told us with finals, returning books, and everything associated with finishing up school, this has been a bit of an overwhelming time.
But she wouldn't trade it at all for that late night phone call she received. Hall said, "After the draft, I was half asleep actually, woke up and saw a text from coach Foster about midnight that said the Seattle Storm wants you to come to training camp. And maybe five minutes later they called me and just officially invited me.
Lady Mocs coach Jim Foster put in a good word. And the SoCon player of the year's body of work is impressive. She led the Lady Mocs in scoring and was also the conference's defensive player of the year.
She hopes her well-rounded game can take her to the next level, the top level. "I think size helps me and coach Foster put me in a position this year where I was almost like, I guess helped the point guard and that kind of expanded my game a little bit. I get to see inside and outside, so that should help me."
Before this surprise invite, she had plans on going the physical therapy or medical school route, but that one phone call put that on hold. "Well, what my mom told me was medical school will be there, you know you can't pass up an opportunity like this. That's something that will be there years down the road, but this is something that's once in a lifetime," Hall said.
Her teammates are excited for her.People close to Taylor have told this reserved Lady Moc to take loads of confidence to Seattle.
She'll compete against some of the best. She is one of three players invited to camp for tryouts. Ole Miss' Valencia McFarland and Vanderbilt's Chelsea Douglas will also try out.
Hall has a plan to make the most out of this once in a lifetime chance. "Just performing, being confident, you know not going in there timid, things like that, just going to play basketball like I've been doing my whole life."
The Seattle Storm open training camp on Sunday at Seattle Pacific University. That's when Hall will report.
Overall, she is the third Lady Moc to be invited to a WNBA try-out.
The San Antonio Silver Stars drafted Alex Anderson (2008) in the third round and the Connecticut Sun invited Laura Hall (2008) to its training camp.
Anderson is currently playing professionally overseas for the Finland Catz.
NewsChannel 9 wishes Taylor Hall the best of luck.
