The last six-and-a-half months have not been good times for Chattanooga Mocs point guard and team captain Dontay Hampton, who was hoping to finish his senior season with a bang.
Last July, when "Tay" was practicing by himself, he slipped and tore the ACL in his right knee.
Hampton, who walked on at UTC after graduating from Arts & Sciences, finally earning a scholarship before last season, returned to the Mocs lineup at the Citadel on January 10th, rallying the Mocs to a win over the Bulldogs.
At the Roundhouse a week later, he rallied the Mocs from a 19 point deficit to an overtime win over App State. But he broke his right wrist in the closing seconds of that game.
Despite that injury, Hampton played against Western Carolina on the 19th, but at Elon on January 24, Hampton re-injured that right knee on the final play of the first half.
An MRI showed a partial tear in that surgically repaired right ACL. Hampton had surgery Thursday morning, ending his playing career at UTC.Career Ends for Mocs Hampton
