Braves End Losing Skid
The streak was getting long, and painful for the Atlanta Braves.
The Braves showed an offensive pulse Monday night, but not enough against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Tonight, even less offense. But solid pitching on both sides.
Gavin Floyd was making his first start for Atlanta. It was a good one. He went seven innings, giving up six hits and striking out five.
Offensively, Justin Upton provided the punch. He hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 4th inning. It was a towering shot into deep left center field, his 9th home run of the season.
In the 8th inning, Upton would score the go-ahead run off Chris Johnson's single. Craig Kimbrel came in and closed the door with the save.
Braves win 2-1 and remain in first place by a half game over the Washington Nationals. Atlanta and St. Louis wrap up their series tomorrow evening.
