There's good news and bad news from the high school basketball girls state tournament in Murfreesboro. First, the good news... Brooke Copeland is a really good player, and she's only a junior at Bradley Central High School.
The bad news... that wasn't nearly enough Wednesday when the 3rd ranked Bearettes went up against 2nd ranked Johnson City Science Hill in the class 3-A quarterfinals.
The Bearettes knew they'd be in an uphill battle when Rebecca Reuter, also a junior, was whistled for two technical fouls in last Saturday night's sub-state win, and was forced to sit out two games.
Jason Reuter, Rebecca's father, and the Bearettes head coach, threw everything he had at the Hilltoppers, but nothing worked. Other than Copeland.
Science Hill jumped out to a 14-4 lead.... the Bearettes cut it to 3, but it was all downhill after that.
By halftime the Hilltoppers led by 12... they turned the game into a blowout in the second half.
Copeland had a great game for the Bearettes... scoring 17 points and pulling down 16 rebounds. But she didn't have a whole lot of help. Senior Baylee Carroll was the Bearettes next-highest scorer, and she netted only 9 points, as Bradley Central is eliminated, 64-38.
It was only their third loss of the season... their first to a Tennessee team.Bearettes Eliminated From State Tournament
