Skunk delays high school football game
EAST RIDGE, Tenn. —
Things got wild at a high school football game in East Ridge Friday night - and that wasn't just because of the rabid fans.
The East Ridge High School Pioneers took on the Polk County High School Wildcats.
But an animal that resembled a polecat stole the show.
The game got delayed for a few minutes after halftime when the little guy walked on to the field.
The crowd noticed, as did the announcer, who said "there is a skunk on the field!"
Suddenly in the spotlight, the skunk skittered away, and the game resumed shortly thereafter. While the skunk delayed the game for only a couple of minutes, he gave many in the stands something to talk about for the rest of their lives.
No animals were harmed in the course of the incident. No football or referee uniforms were damaged, either, much to everyone's relief.
Polk County ended up defeating East Ridge, 35-28.
