Officers give helping hand, makeover to NY man who was 'down on his luck'
ROME, N.Y. (WSTM) - An effort by officers in Rome to help a man who they say was "down on his luck" has gone viral.
Officer Jeff Buckley of the Rome Police Department tells us fellow Officer Aaron Page interacted with a man named Bobby on Monday.
"It was obvious he needed some simple things clothing wise," says Buckley. "He literally had just the clothes he was wearing."
Officer Page told Bobby to come to the station Tuesday morning, and when he did he received a sweet surprise.
Four members of the department - Officers Page, Buckley, George Gebo and Sgt. Frank Fragapane - had gathered some clothing to donate to Bobby. On top of that, Officer Page had brought in a pair of clippers to give Bobby a fresh shave and a haircut.
"We are always trying to come up with new ideas of how to help and give back to our community," says Buckley. "Officer Page spear-headed the idea on this one and it was a great way to help someone who simply needed a hand."
The department shared photos of Bobby's transformation on its Facebook page Tuesday. Within hours, the post had a whopping 1,300 shares.
