Law enforcement honor two troopers killed in helicopter crash while working Virginia rally
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. —
It was an emotional scene along I-64 in Virginia Saturday night.
The bodies of two state police troopers who died in a helicopter crash in Charlottesville were taken home to Richmond.
They were killed when their helicopter crashed in a wooded area.
The helicopter was assisting public safety resources with the ongoing protest in Charlottesville.
Officials said the pilot, 48-year-old Lt. Jay Cullen and 40-year-old trooper-pilot Berke M.M. Bates died at the scene.
Law enforcement, firefighters and other observers gathered on overpasses along the interstate to honor the troopers.
