Director of Marion County Schools Mark Griffith says at 5:30 Thursday morning, the principal of Whitwell Middle School notified him of an alleged assault.

Griffith says the incident occurred during a 6th grade overnight trip to Huntsville Space Camp.

One male student was tickling two other males students.

Griffith says it turned into an assault when the 13-year-old touched the two victims on the rear end in the dorm room area.

Griffith sent the principal to Huntsville to investigate and the families of all 18 students were notified.

The teenager was brought back to Marion County by his parents.

The families of the two victims opted to keep them at Space Camp.

Alabama Department of Children’s Services and the Huntsville Police department have been notified.

The suspect has been expelled pending a disciplinary hearing which will happen next week.

WAAY-TV in Huntsville reports that Huntsville police said investigators will follow up with the children and their parents.

A U.S. Space and Rocket Center spokeswoman told WAAY that Space Camp management followed its procedures after being informed of the incident.

"Space Camp management followed decampment procedures used in cases that require discipline," spokeswoman Pat Ammons said. "This was coordinated with the school principal and all the parents involved."
