This weekend, Chattanooga welcomes back competitors for IRONMAN 70.3.

It will be a busy day for competitors swimming, biking running to complete the race.

IRONKID'S starts Saturday May 20th at 9:00 am, and IRONMAN starts 6:50 am on Sunday the 21st.

Roads will be closed leading up to weekend and into Monday.

Starting Wednesday 17th at 9:00 am until 5:00 am on Monday the 22nd, the following roads will be closed:

  • Riverside Drive and Riverfront and Riverfront Parkway between Aquarium Way and Molly Street
  • Chestnut Street between Aquarium Way and Riverfront Parkway
  • Southbound Veterans Bridge ramp to Riverside Drive
  • The right eastbound lane of Riverfront Parkway between Molly Lane and Market Street

Sunday on raceday, more roads will be closed for the bike portion:

  • The right eastbound lane of Riverfront Parkway between Molly Lane and Market Street
  • Market Street between West 20th Street and West 40th Street
  • West 40th Street between Alton Park Blvd and Tennessee Avenue
  • The I-24 on ramp and South bound off ramp at Market Street will be closed and all streets crossing this route will be controlled by CPD officers.
  • The intersections of St Elmo Avenue and Virginia Avenue will be 4 way Stops from 5:00 am until 1:00 pm on Sunday for the IRONMAN 70.3 bike portion.
  • Cyclists will also be on Tennessee Avenue and St Elmo Avenue to the state line, riding with traffic.

For the running portion of the race, the following roads will be closed from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm and cross streets will have CPD giving right of way to runners:

  • The right eastbound lane of Frazier Avenue between Forest Avenue and the Veterans Bridge
  • The right northbound lane of Barton Avenue between Frazier avenue and Baker Street
  • The right northbound bike lane of the Veterans Bridge between East 3rd Street and Barton Avenue
  • The right westbound lane of Amnicola Highway between Old Curtain Pole Road and Lindsay Street
  • Riverside Drive between Lindsay Street and Molly Lane
  • The Battery Place off ramp from Riverside Drive
  • Aquarium Way between Riverside Drive and Walnut Street

The Tennessee River will be closed to recreational water crafts between Ross's Landing and River Mile 469 (behind the Boathouse Restaurant) from 5:00 am until 10:30 am on Sunday, May 21. This does include the Tennessee Riverpark boat ramps.

The Electric Shuttle will have extended hours for IRONMAN on Sunday beginning at 5:00 am. There will also be extra shuttles running the route. Bike Chattanooga Ambassadors will be at bike share stations to assist folks renting a bike from the bike share system.
