Dalton Police say an 18-year-old girl is fighting for her life after a serious accident Wednesday evening.

DPD spokesman Bruce Frazier says the accident happened just after 6 p.m. at the intersection of Walnut and Sheridan Avenues.

Investigators say 18-year-old Austin Burnette of Chatsworth was heading west on Walnut Avenue when a car driven by 18-year-old Keiri Suarez of Tunnel Hill heading east on the same road tried to turn left onto Sheridan Avenue, right in front of him.

Burnette told officers he wasn't able to stop in time to avoid hitting her. An ambulance rushed Suarez to the hospital with injuries considered severe and life-threatening.

Burnette had minor injuries and may have a broken ankle.

Police say they haven't filed any charges in the case, but officers are still investigating.
