Update: Red Bank police identify suspect in Highway 27 chase that ended in crash, arrest

UPDATE (Tuesday):

Red Bank police have identified the suspect they say led them in a chase on Highway 27 Monday evening.

The chase ended in a crash on Morrison Springs Road, and authorities arrested 27-year-old Benjamin Michael Smith on the scene. Red Bank officers say Smith was uninjured in the crash.

Red Bank police say there were already open warrants out for Smith, and he told officers that he ran because of the warrants.

Benjamin Michael Smith has been charged with felony evading, driving on a revoked license, reckless endangerment, possession of drug paraphernalia, and other traffic violations.

He was booked into Hamilton County Jail.

PREVIOUSLY:

A reported police chase on Highway 27 ended with a crash in Red Bank Monday evening.

NewsChannel 9 photojournalist Brent McDonald went to the scene at Morrison Springs Road around 8 p.m.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office told us one person was arrested in the incident.

Red Bank police are leading the investigation.
