Woman trapped after cliff fall rescued near Covenant College

UPDATE: Crews have rescued the young woman who fell off a ledge near Covenant College.


Rescue crews say the woman does not appear to be injured.

Authorities in Dade County confirm to NewsChannel 9 that a rescue is underway for a young woman who fell off a ledge near Covenant College on Lookout Mountain.

Dade County Sheriff Ray Cross says the woman fell 40 feet down, and is on a ledge with a 60-foot drop below.

The Lookout Mountain Rescue Squad, Hamilton County Rescue, Dade Sheriff's Department deputies and Walker County Sheriff's Office deputies are all helping to get the woman back up the ledge.


Sheriff Cross says the woman is in her early 20s, and is possibly a Covenant College student. We're told the woman is alert, but may have broken her leg in the fall.

The area is considered part of the Lookout Mountain Battlefield.
