The race for the position of Hamilton County Sheriff has a new contender - Victor Miller announced his candidacy Thursday.

Miller is a supervisor for the Chattanooga Police Department's Homicide Unit. He has previous experience serving Chattanooga as a patrol officer, homicide detective, police spokesman, and Crime Stoppers coordinator.

Miller also served a role in tragic cases such as the Chattanooga terrorist attack of 2015 and the Woodmore bus crash.

“We can make Hamilton County safer and reduce crime by focusing on the crimes that matter most to us, protecting our children and schools, providing more support and resources to our deputies, and building relationships between all segments of Hamilton County’s diverse community and law enforcement,” says Miller.

An email release sent to NewsChannel 9 says Miller invites the community to a kickoff event Saturday, November 18 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Granfalloon on East Main Street. If you are interested in attending, RSVP at www.millersheriff.com or by calling 423-298-6432.

Last month, current Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond announced his plans to seek re-election. Hammond was elected Hamilton County Sheriff in 2008.
