New program creates running club for homeless

Participants received running shirts, shorts, and shoes as donations from residents and the Chattanooga Track Club.

They say a morning run is a great way to start your day. A new local organization is promoting just that.

The new program called "On My Own 2 Feet", is getting homeless communities to become more active by conducting morning running, hoping to influence them to make more active decisions in their lifestyles.

Runners were given clothes and shoes donated by the public and the Chattanooga Track Club. The program has many sponsors, including Coca-Cola, who has given the program access to free Powerade.

Food City also gave them a donation of $100 to buy fruits and snacks for the participants. From now on, the program will meet on Sunday and Thursday mornings at 8 a.m. Volunteers are wanted for both days when available. Anyone interested in volunteering are encouraged to contact Rita Fanning at
