UPDATE (Tuesday, May 15):

In-house Legal Counsel and Director of Human Resources Michael Tuck has issued a statement to clarify the situation:

"On the evening of March 8, 2018, the District decided to terminate its relationship with Dr. McFee and he was immediately relieved of all duties. Dr. McFee, through his attorney, raised certain procedural issues as to the termination and requested a hearing. A hearing was scheduled, but prior to the hearing, in order to avoid the cost and uncertainty of any possible protracted litigation, the District agreed to settle with Dr. McFee. A Settlement Agreement is in the process of being finalized."

UPDATE (Monday, May 14):

Murray County School Superintendent Dr. Eric McFee says he was not fired, despite what board members told us in March.

Two months ago, board members spent more than three hours behind closed doors.

After their private meeting, the board voted to fire Dr. McFee. School Board Chairman Greg Shoemaker told us it was a personnel matter, but would not elaborate further.

Less than a month later, the board called a special meeting and voted to rescind McFee's termination.

The board then put McFee on paid administrative leave.

We reached out to Murray County Schools for clarification on Dr. McFee's status Monday.

In-house Legal Counsel and Director of Human Resources Michael Tuck told us "the District and Dr. McFee are in the process of finalizing a Settlement Agreement..."

Depend on us to update you on this story once the agreement becomes final.

PREVIOUSLY (March 8):

A NewsChannel 9 viewer captured the board voting to terminate Eric McFee's contract at Thursday night's marathon school board session:

Chairman Greg Shoemaker says the board terminated superintendent Eric McFee during their Thursday night board meeting at the Central Office.

Shoemaker says that it was a personnel matter, but did not elaborate further.

Shoemaker says the board has appointed Steve Loughridge to be the interim superintendent.

Loughridge currently serves as the financial director for the school board.
