Massive tree falls on Ringgold duplex; home receives little damage

A 150 foot tree gave Christina Harris and her family a huge scare Monday night.

"A real rumbling," said Harris, describing what she heard. "Almost like hail."

But what she saw was much larger than hail.

"We jumped up and thought it was a tornado," she said. "We looked out the window, grabbed the kids, and it was just a tree on top of the house."

A tree service responded to the duplex Tuesday morning.

"We got our 2 cranes here getting this humongous tree," said James Mashburn of Mashburn Tree Service. "It had to be at least 200 years old. It had to be here when the war was fought because of the size of it."

Harris' home, however, received little damage. A relieving feeling, since her children's bunk bed is on the other side of the wall where the tree hit.

"If it would've fallen any farther, their bunk bed would have been crushed. So it's scary, but thankful that they are happy and health and safe and at school today."
