Chattanooga Police tell us a suspect is in custody after a standoff in Lookout Valley late Wednesday night.

Police say at about 7:30, suspect James Christopher Dill was eating dinner with his family and suddenly became irate, screaming and arguing with his family for an unknown reason.

An affidavit obtained by NewsChannel 9 says he then got a handgun and threatened to kill himself during the argument. The affidavit says he then pointed the gun at a family member and threatened to use it on her.

Police say Dill put the gun to his temple, tilted it, and took several shots while inside the home.

Somehow family members inside got the gun away from Dill and ran outside to call police, according to the affidavit.

During the call to police Dill reportedly said he was going to the shed to get another firearm and "end this now."

A family member told police that Dill might have been in contact with a neighborhood friend.

Police searched the residence down the street from the family home and found Dill in an RV.

Police took Dill to jail and charged him with aggravated domestic assault, three counts of reckless endangerment, and felony possession of a firearm.
