Investigation underway after inmate death at Hamilton County Jail
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. —
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) says an inmate at the Hamilton County Jail died in custody early Thursday morning.
HCSO spokesman Matt Lea says 44-year-old Jeffery Simmons "experienced a medical emergency" and was taken to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The HCSO says it's now conducting an investigation.
Authorities arrested Simmons on December 9th, 2016, on domestic assault charges.
