The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) is mourning the loss of one its own four legged officers.

Hamilton Co. Sheriff Jim Hammond says retired K-9 deputy Quanto passed away last week.

The HSCO says Quanto assisted federal and state officers with several drug bust and seizures.

Hammond says Quanto served the department for several years before retirement in 2014.

The HSCO says during Quanto's retirement he lived with Detective Mickey Rountree, the K-9's former owner. Rountree says Quanto was trained in criminal apprehension, handler protection, tracking, and narcotics detection. In his final days, the HCSO says Quanto spent his "as a cherished, friend and companion."

The Hamilton County Scheriff's Office says it thanks Quanto for his many years of service to the Hamilton Co. community,
