Hamilton County officials announced Monday that they will no longer operate the Sequoyah Transfer Station, a public waste management station in Hamilton County.

The Sequoyah Transfer Station will be closed as of Saturday, July 29th, 2017.

Hamilton County officials say service was started in the community because of a lack of private waste services in the area. Now that there are private trash disposal services, the service is being discontinued.

Hamilton County spokesman Mike Dunne says the fees collected at the Sequoyah Transfer Station only made up 40% of the daily operating costs, and that the closure will save county taxpayers money.

The Sequoyah Recycling Center located next to the transfer station will remain open and provide disposal services for recyclable material only.

If you choose not to contract with a private garbage service provider, you may dispose of their garbage at the Birchwood landfill at 9327 Birchwood Pike or another approved transfer station location.
