Governor Bill Haslam's proposed gas tax has passed the Tennessee House 60 votes to 37, and passed the Senate with 25 to 6.

Different versions of the bill were passed, and it will now head back to the House to resolve a difference over property tax relief for veterans.

The last step will be Governor Haslam's desk to finalize the proposal.

If it goes into effect, this will be the first gas increase in the state since 1989.

The price of unleaded gas would increase by 6 cents to fund almost 1.000 road projects.
