In a note sent to parents, Chattanooga Valley Middle School principal Wade Breeden says a student brought an unloaded pistol to school Friday.

Walker County Superintendent Damon Raines says the student had a .22 caliber.

Another student reported the gun to a school administrator after seeing it.

Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson says the 14-year-old was charged with possession of a firearm on school property, and then released to his parent.

Raines said they are still working with law enforcement.

Here is a copy of the letter sent by Principal Brown Friday.
