Chattanooga Fire crews save home after electrical fire

Chattanooga Fire Crews worked quickly Saturday morning to put out an electrical fire at a home in East Lake.

Crews responded to the home on East 34th Street just after 10 a.m.

When they arrived, firefighters with Engine 9 determined the fire started in or behind the home's breaker box.

Crews managed to get the fire out in roughly 15 minutes, containing it to one room.

The people living in the home said they were getting ready to leave the house when they heard popping and cracking sounds.

They said they tried to put the fire out with fire extinguishers, but were not successful.

One person suffered minor cuts to his hand from breaking a window.

He was treated on the scene by firefighters,

The cause of the fire is being ruled accidental.

Losses are estimated at $20,000.
