A car crashed into a substation on Crabtree Road late Friday morning, causing outages in the Middle Valley area.

The power was restored about 15 minutes.

We're told the car crashed right in the middle of the substation. Extrication efforts are now underway by the Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department. Crews will have to completely cut power to the substation to remove the vehicle's occupant.

Crews tell our crew on the scene the driver went too fast around the curve.

There's no word if drugs or alcohol were involved.

The driver was eventually removed from the wreckage and taken to the hospital in stable condition.

EPB's outage map showed outages right after the crash. EPB says normally, the smart grid would have rerouted power immediately. EPB delayed the reroute to ensure safety for first responders and the crash victim.
