Body of chase suspect recovered in Tennessee River Friday

The Marion County Sheriff's Department recovered a body in the Tennessee River Friday morning.

Matt Blansett of the Marion County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) says crews recovered a body from near where a man officers were chasing jumped into the river Monday night, at 19000 River Canyon Road.

G.A. Bennett of the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office later confirmed that the body is of the man, who he identifies as 28-year-old Michael Shane Huffman of Dunlap.

Members of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Hamilton County Tactics and Rescue Services (STARS) took part in the recovery, which was underway since early Tuesday.

On Monday night, Hamilton County Deputies chased a car into a private yard at 19000 River Canyon Road. There, a male driver, later identified as Huffman, jumped out of the car while it was still in drive, and jumped into the river. The car continued into the river, and two women inside managed to jump out into the water. They were later recovered and arrested. Authorities have not yet released their identities.
