The Degree of Fellow recognizes AAFP members who have distinguished themselves among their colleagues, as well as in their communities, by their service to family medicine and by their professional development through medical education and research. Fellows of the AAFP are recognized as Champions of Family Medicine.
“We are extremely proud of Dr. Bill Moore Smith for achieving this distinction,” said James Creel, MD, Chief Medical Officer of the Erlanger Health System. “Our community benefits greatly from his expertise in family medicine and sports medicine.”
In addition to the FAAFP distinction, Dr. Smith has been named “Best General Practice Doctor” for both 2011 and 2012 by voters in the annual “Best of the Best” People’s Choice Awards sponsored by the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
Dr. Smith earned his medical degree at the University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis and completed a family medicine residency program at the University of Virginia. With advanced training in sports medicine, Dr. Smith has served as team physician for numerous athletic teams and events, including the U.S. Women’s Olympic Rowing Team in 1996 and 1997; NCAA Golf Championships; AAU National Basketball Championships, TSSAA and Southern Conference tournaments and championships, and many more.
Dr. Smith sees patients at two office locations in the Chattanooga area: UT Erlanger Primary and Athletic Health, 1200 Pineville Road, Chattanooga; and UT Erlanger Primary Care, 100A McFarland Road, Lookout Mountain, Ga. He is board-certified in family medicine.
