NO CHARGES TO BE FILED AGAINST BILL COSBY IN MOLESTATION CLAIM

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Bill Cosby won't face charges in 2014 for an incident that allegedly took place in 1974. Prosecutors in Los Angeles have declined to file charges against the comedian after a woman named Judy Huth came forward to claim to police that Cosby molested her around 40 years ago. In explaining the decision not to file, the DA's office says it considered the kind of charges Cosby would have faced back then -- and determined the statute of limitations had expired. Whether the case had been considered a misdemeanor or felony, the timing to file it would have long passed. The attorney for the accuser notes that the reason prosecutors gave for not pursuing the case was the passage of time -- not because her client's claims lacked merit. Huth, meanwhile, is pursuing a civil suit against Cosby and Cosby's attorney is trying to get that case dismissed because of the time that has passed.

BILL COSBY'S DAUGHTER SPEAKS OUT

NEW YORK (AP) -- A second member of Bill Cosby's family has rallied to the comedian's defense. First it was his wife, Camille -- now Cosby's youngest daughter has issued a statement in support of her dad. Evin Cosby says her dad is the "father you thought you knew." His wife issued a similar statement two days ago, saying the private Cosby is no different from the public persona he has cultivated for decades. Both wife and daughter have suggested it's Cosby who has been victimized by the allegations of sexual assault that have been made in recent weeks.

AP Entertainment Editor Oscar Wells Gabriel reports Bill Cosby's youngest daughter has come to her dad's defense.

ROMAN POLANSKI SUES PROSECUTORS

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Authorities in Los Angeles have been trying to get fugitive movie director Roman Polanski to face judgment for a rape case that dates back four decades. Now, Polanski is going to court to get the law off his back. He has hired a new legal team -- which has sued federal and local authorities for going over the line to try to get Polanski extradited. Back in 1977, Polanski pleaded guilty to one count of statutory rape for having sex with a 13-year-old girl during a photo shoot in Los Angeles. When he was supposed to turn himself in, he fled to France and is an international fugitive. Whenever he travels, American authorities have tried to reel him in, to no avail.

"SAVING PRIVATE RYAN" NAMED TO NATIONAL FILM REGISTRY

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Library of Congress feels "Saving Private Ryan" is worth saving as part of the nation's cinematic treasury. The agency has named the Steven Spielberg film to its National Film Registry. Each year, the Library of Congress adds 25 films to the registry -- making sure that the movies are preserved for all time. Other popular films making the registry list this year include "Rosemary's Baby," "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "The Big Lebowski."

BLAKE SHELTON'S SINGER WINS "THE VOICE"

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- It's win four for Team Blake on "The Voice." The country superstar coached country wannabe Craig Wayne Boyd, who won the title during last night's seventh-season finale. The odds seemed to be against Team Blake, with three of the four finalists coached by Adam Levine. But Boyd takes the trophy, leaving Team Adam's indie rocker Matt McAndrew the runner-up. The finale featured a host of guest artists including Ed Sheeran, Jennifer Hudson and Bruno Mars.

"THE INTERVIEW" THREATS

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- It's a rare request by from a movie studio to theaters: feel free NOT to show our movie. But that's what Sony Pictures Entertainment is telling theater owners. Multiple reports say the studio is giving permission for theaters to opt out of showing "The Interview." Hackers have issued threats to those who see the movie, a comedy about an assassination attempt against North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. While the hackers threaten a 9/11 type of attack, Homeland Security says there's no credible intelligence to support the threat.

ROBIN WILLIAMS - MOST SEARCHED ON GOOGLE

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- It was probably the biggest shock in the entertainment world this year: the death of Robin Williams -- by suicide. Google says the reaction to Williams' death in August tops the 2104 list of this year's fastest-rising search requests. It beats out notable events such as the World Cup, the Ebola outbreak, the March disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 and the Ice Bucket Challenge. Williams' death also ranked among the top discussions on Facebook.
