Local makers featured in new Chattanooga Market General Store
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. —
Chattanooga is known for it's creativity. We feature the artists and businesses that put a piece of our city all over the world every week in our Made in Our Hometown series. Now, there's a new store gathering all of that "making power" together in a place where tourists already have a reason to stop.
Summer days always bring a crowd to the Tennessee Aquarium, out of towners here to vacation and moms entertaining kids on summer break. And now, right next door, the Chattanooga General Store features just about anything you can think of: jewelry, clothing, paintings. They're all made by local artists like Jaime Barks. "Since I was a little girl I was always making and doing differnet things, and I like to tell my story through paintings."
Now Jaime captures some of Chattanooga's most recognizable sights in paint. Her other claim to fame, these wood pieces that mix old hymnal pages with nature scenes. Before this store opened it's doors, connecting with customers was quite the battle. "As an aritist half the job I do is getting my art out there. There's a lot of hustle. to be able to have the opportunity to be somewhere like where locals and tourists are all the time is a great opportunity."
The Chattanooga market General store grand opening will happen on June 3rd. They are open Monday through Saturday 10 to 6 and Sunday 10-5. Click here to visit their Facebook page.
